Context
ComplyCloud is a Legal-Tech SaaS in the compliance space, based in Copenhagen. I joined in 2020 as Lead Developer, hired to architect version 2 of the platform, and stayed until 2023 as Technical Team Lead / Project Manager. Over that period the engineering organisation grew from 2 developers to 30.
Architecture
Version 2 was a new technical foundation for a secure, high-performance Legal-Tech SaaS, designed with three dimensions of scaling in mind: users, features and developers.
The architecture provides tools for developers, content managers and lawyers to engage with the platform directly, so the people who own the regulatory content can work on it without going through engineering.
React, Next.js and TypeScript on the front end; RavenDB as the document store for regulatory data; AWS for cloud services; GitHub for source control. My own focus was on scalable cloud services and platform stability, against complex regulatory data requirements.
Outcome & Impact
The platform supported the largest Legal-Tech Seed/Series A investment in Scandinavia at the time (2021).
Alongside it I built the engineering organisation: the team scaled from 2 to 30 across frontend, backend, DevOps, design, product and scrum, with the hiring frameworks and engineering culture to support that growth. I implemented technical roadmaps, agile processes and strategic planning methodologies, and mentored internal talent through the transition into leadership roles during the expansion.
